Salesforce's stock is up almost 1% on Anthropic IPO buzz. Meanwhile, your team is still manually copying data between two systems because the native integration broke six months ago.
The Motley Fool is flagging Salesforce as a smart pre-IPO play — the logic being that AI partnerships with Anthropic will eventually make its platform smarter and more valuable. Wall Street likes the story.
Here's what that story leaves out: Salesforce's investors and Salesforce's customers have almost nothing in common right now. The AI features being pitched to shareholders are the same ones being demoed in sales calls while your actual workflows still require a consultant ticket and a 6-week wait to change a single pipeline stage.
If you've been through a Salesforce implementation — or any enterprise CRM rollout — you already know how this plays out. The roadmap announcements come fast. The useful features arrive slowly, locked behind higher tiers, or require yet another certified partner to configure. The gap between what's promised and what your team can actually use on a Tuesday morning stays wide.
AI will eventually matter for CRM. But "eventually" doesn't fix the report your VP is asking for this Friday.
The companies building serious AI capabilities are worth watching — just don't confuse a good investment thesis with a solution to your operations problem.
